Just a few days before the start of the World Cup earlier this year, Pakistan batsman Asif Ali had suffered a big personal tragedy. Asif Ali had initially missed out on selection in the World Cup squad before some impressive outings against England helped him earn a place in the final 15. However, the joy was short-lived as he received the tragic news of his 19-month-old daughter passing away in the United States of America after a fairly long battle against illness.

Asif Ali had later put up a very brave face to keep aside the tragedy and represent Pakistan in the all-important World Cup. The right-handed batsman, however, was not a regular in the team and managed to play just two games. He failed to impress in both the games, scoring 14 and 5 against England and Australia respectively.

The 27-year old, meanwhile, posted a very emotional tribute for his daughter on Friday. In his post, the batsman stated that his daughter Noor Fatima would have turn two-year-old on Friday and asked his followers to pray for the angel.

“Today is your second birthday, Dua fatima. You left us too early but you will always be in my heart. we miss you very much every day. Happy birthday my angel. You are in a better place. Pls pray for jannat for my lovely baby dua,” wrote Asif Ali.

Asif Ali impresses again

Asif Ali, nonetheless, continues to impress on the field. In his last outing, he scored a fine ton for Northern against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The right-hander scored 114 in the second innings to help Northern draw the game after a poor performance in the first innings.

He is likely to be a part of Pakistan’s squad for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home. Pakistan are set to host the Islanders for three ODIs and as many T20Is. The series was under doubt due to security reasons but Sri Lanka recently confirmed they will visit Pakistan. The visitors, however, will be without their full-strength squad as ten players have pulled out of the tour.
