The Bangladeshi Tigers are one of the best sides at home, giving a tough competition to the top-notch sides like Australia. But the graph of their performance dips down considerably when they travel abroad, something which happened very recently when they took on the Proteas for the first Test match of the series at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s men couldn’t offer a fight in front of the big guns like Hashim Amla and Protean skipper Faf du Plessis, as they lost the match by a humongous margin of 333 runs. What was more humiliating that they were bundled out for just 90 runs in the second innings being bowled out inside a session, which left their fans frustrated. Former Bangladeshi cricketer and current commentator, Athar Ali Khan has pointed out two reasons behind the collapse.

“I think Bangladesh committed two mistakes in the first Test match. Firstly they took bowling after winning the toss and secondly omitting Taijul Islam from the playing eleven. Bangladesh management thought the wicket might be bouncy with lot of pace but the condition frustrated them ultimately because it was just like the wickets Bangladesh are accustomed to play at home,” said Athar, while speaking to Super Sports.

Athar fails to find the reason behind Bangladesh’s batting collapse

The 55-year-old commentator from Dhaka failed to understand why the Bangladeshi batters failed to score in the Senwes Park, where the likes of Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla were having a great day.

“I just can’t find the reasons why batsmen failed to play any big score there. Apart from that, the way they lost their wickets is also a matter of concern. They would not be blamed if they departed playing very good deliveries but they went to the pavilion facing such deliveries which were not wicket-taking deliveries at all,” he concluded.
