AUS vs IND, 2020: 1st T20I – Statistical Preview

Australia will be hosting India in a 3-match T20I series starting on Friday at the Manuka Oval where India bagged a consolation win after losing the ODI series. A lot of experiments could be seen from both the teams who are looking to build T20 squad ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021. India could be resting some of the names in course of the series with an eye on managing the workload ahead of the 4-match Test series. Both Australia and India will be playing the series without their star openers David Warner and Rohit Sharma respectively.

Here we look at the key stats and numbers that matter ahead of the T20I series between Australia and India:

1 – The Manuka Oval in Canberra has hosted only one Men’s T20I match thus far – between Australia and Pakistan in 2019. The home team won the game by 7 wickets with Steve Smith scoring an unbeaten 80.

9* – India has not lost any of their last nine matches played in the T20I format; their longest unbeaten streak in T20I cricket. India has won eight of those nine matches which include two victories coming via Super Over while another game ended without a result. India has not lost any of their last eight T20Is played away from home.

11.17 – Glenn Maxwell has a batting average of 11.17 in the Twenty20 format against Jasprit Bumrah. Maxwell scored 67 runs from 58 balls and been dismissed on six occasions in the bowling of Bumrah. The dismissal in the Canberra ODI was Maxwell’s first in the ODI format against Bumrah.

14.7 – Bowling strike rate of Jasprit Bumrah in Twenty20 cricket in 2020. The Indian pacer has picked 35 wickets across the 22 innings he bowled in T20s this year at an average of 16.28 with help of two 4-wicket hauls. Bumrah has a strike rate of 16.8 during the powerplay overs (1-6) as he took ten wickets across 28 PP overs bowled this year in T20s.

34 – KL Rahul has hit a total of 34 sixes in T20 cricket in 2020 but only four of them came against the spinners. Rahul has stuck as many as 30 sixes across 376 balls he faced from the pacers in T20s this year but only four in 365 balls played against spin.

135.5 – Virat Kohli has a batting average of 135.5 against spin bowlers in the Twenty20 format in 2020. However, he has scored those runs at a strike rate of only 111.52 against them in T20s this year having hit just 10 fours and 8 sixes across 243 balls.

147.12 – The batting strike rate of Steve Smith in T20Is since his return to International cricket in 2019. Across nine T20I innings in this period, Smith has scored 286 runs at an average of 46.83 with help of two fifties.

299 – Aaron Finch has played 299 matches in the Twenty20 format till date. The Friday’s T20I will mark Finch’s 300th appearance in T20 cricket making him only the 3rd Australian after Shane Watson (343) and Daniel Christian (326) to feature in 300 T20s.

584 – Virat Kohli holds the record for scoring most number of runs against an opponent in Men’s T20I cricket. He has scored as many as 584 runs in 15 T20I innings against Australia at an average of 64.88 with help of six fifties.

993 – Runs KL Rahul has scored in the Twenty20 format in 2020 across 21 innings by averaging 55.16 with a century and eight fifties. Only Babar Azam (1242 runs in 29 innings) has more T20 runs than Rahul. Marcus Stoinis (986 runs) is only seven runs behind Rahul but has batted in 33 innings; 12 more than Rahul.
