Virat Kohli is always in the limelight, most of the times it is because his bat is talking but this series it has been his comments. The DRS controversy, which should have been left alone is been doing rounds in the news throughout this break. The Indian skipper made some stern comments on the Australians after the Bangalore win and is answering for the same ever since.
The Australian media also made a fuss about the issue but defended Smith for his actions and understandably so but Virat’s comments have been misinterpreted by many. However, both the captains have come unscathed out of the controversy as none of them faced bans.
Virat Kohli was answering a round of questions from media before the third Test which is to be played in Ranchi. He came across a series of questions where one of the Australian journalists tried to squeeze out controversial comments from the Indian skipper over the DRS row but Kohli was obstinate enough.
The conversation between the captain and the journalist was a quick one but showed how Virat is mature enough to handle the media as well. Here is how the conversation actually happened.
Australian journalist: Is it appropriate for international captain to make serious allegations and not provide evidence to substantiate that:
Kohli: What were the allegations?
Australian journalist: That Australia weren’t using the DRS the right way, two other occasions…
Kohli: But, what were the allegations called?
Australian journalist: Doesn’t matter what the allegation is called…
Kohli: But it does because it has to be called something for me to be questioning something about someone to call it an allegation. If no charges were pressed against me, how are those allegations?
Australian journalist: You said two instances when you were batting, Australia used the DRS wrongly. Stand by that?
Kohli: As I said, we need to move on and focus on the game tomorrow (Thursday). We have got two more Test matches to go. There are two sides of the coin. I could be speaking about another (thing) again and things are just not going to move forward. Everyone sitting here has his own interest and chooses to ask what he wants to. But our focus remains on the game and we need to look forward.
This shows how Virat has grown over the years not only as a cricketer but also as in terms of handling tricky questions. Like Virat, everyone’s focus should be on the Test match starting tomorrow in Ranchi. It will be interesting to see how Australia line up given there have been many injuries in their camp.
