The Australians must be feeling nervous when they are up against MS Dhoni in the current scenario. The wicketkeeper-batsman recently chose the Kangaroos for hitting back form and in all four matches that he has played them in 2019, he has come up with fifties. Dhoni is now the third-highest scorer against Australia in the 50-overs format and also has 13 fifth-plus knocks against them which the second-highest by an Indian after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Besides his general exploits against the Australians in recent times, what will keep Aaron Finch’s side even more apprehensive is Dhoni’s stellar record at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur where India and Australia will play the second game of the ongoing five-match series. India won the first match in Hyderabad by 6 wickets to go 1-0 up. Australia had the hosts in a corner before their nemesis Dhoni paired with Kedar Jadhav to put on unbeaten 141 runs for the fifth wicket to guide the side home.

Dhoni is the highest run-getter in ODIs in Nagpur

The former India captain has scored 268 runs in five matches in Nagpur at a staggering average of 134 and has hit two hundreds. Both of those hundreds came in 2009 (versus Australia and Sri Lanka). The 37-year-old is, in fact, the top run-getter at the venue and is followed by India captain Virat Kohli who was 209 runs from four matches.

Limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma follows next with 204 runs from two matches. In fact, India have won their last three ODIs against Australia played in Nagpur since 2009 and these statistics will certainly make the Indian fans feel confident about another favourable outcome.

Dhoni has now played 336 ODIs scoring 10,300 runs to be the fifth highest run-getter for India in this variant.

The ongoing series is India’s final international assignment before the ICC World Cup scheduled in England and Wales between May and July. Australia have another five-match series to play after this and it is against Pakistan in the UAE.
