Team India’s tour of Australia is all set to commence with the three-match T20I rubber. Then the two teams will get involved in the much-awaited and intense four-match Test series which will begin on December 6. After a lot being said about the tourists cancelling or trimming their warm-up games. But this time around they are set to play a four-day practice match to prepare for the Test series. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) has named the 12-man group for the encounter.
Sam Whiteman has been appointed the leader of the pack while D’Arcy Short is also the part of the team which will be coached by Graeme Hick. Former Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram will be the assistant to him during the match scheduled to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from November 28.
It’s a versatile squad
The team has been picked by the youth selection panel which is led by National Selector and National Talent Manager Greg Chappell, in consultation with State and Territory Talent Managers. Chappell felt that this is a great chance for the players to prove their mettle against the top Test team. He also gave a few insights about the squad announced and went on to say that the cricketers selected have played for Cricket Australia XI before.
“This is an excellent opportunity for these talented players to test themselves against India, the number one Test team in the world. It’s a versatile squad, with a number of players capable of contributing with bat and ball. D’Arcy Short and Param Uppal both offer valuable spin bowling, alongside their batting, with Aaron Hardie and Jonathan Merlo both capable middle-order batsmen who offer a seam-bowling option,” he said according to the media release by CA.
“Many of the players in this squad have previously played in a Cricket Australia XI during their career, and eight have played Sheffield Shield cricket. We know this is a chance for our emerging players to display their skills against a world-class opponent, and we look forward to seeing what they can do against India,” Chappell further added.
CA XI squad: Sam Whiteman (c), Max Bryant, Jake Carder, Jackson Coleman, Harry Conway, Daniel Fallins, David Grant, Aaron Hardie, Jonathan Merlo, Harry Nielsen, D’Arcy Short, Param Uppal.
