Yesterday, India won their maiden bilateral ODI series on Australian soil. Before yesterday’s match against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the Men in Blue didn’t have the best of records at the renowned venue. However, they soared above expectations to beat the Aussies by seven wickets. Moreover, Virat Kohli and Co showed why they are one of the best in the business.

After Australia were bowled out for 230 runs in 48.4 overs, India found themselves in a fair amount of trouble. They lost Rohit Sharma cheaply after which even Shikhar Dhawan and Indian captain Virat Kohli couldn’t live up to the expectations. Thereafter, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav took charge and didn’t let the pressure get the better of them.

Both cobbled together a stand of 121 runs to take India over the line. Dhoni also scored his third consecutive half-century to remain not out on 87 runs from 114 balls with the help of six boundaries. India won the match with four balls to spare. The 37-year-old experienced campaigner also became the Player of the Series for scoring 193 runs at an awe-inspiring average of 193.

Lacklustre Australia

The hosts were more or less clinical in the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) where they managed to emerge victorious despite Rohit’s superlative knock of 133 from 129 balls. India lost three wickets upfront following which they couldn’t recover. Jhye Richardson was the Man of the Match as he picked up some crucial wickets, including that of the 30-year-old Virat.

However, they couldn’t hold on to their momentum and lost the second encounter at the Adelaide Oval. Kohli, after faltering in the opening match, scored his 39th ODI ton to help his team draw level in the series. In the meantime, Shaun Marsh’s knock of 131 went in vain. The left-hander also became the leading run-scorer of the series with 224 runs from three matches.
