India had a few nervous moments but eventually overcame the odds to level the three-match ODI series against Australia in Adelaide. Chasing 299 to win, they got off to a good start but after a prolonged tug-of-war, came out victorious, thanks to some gritty batting performances. While captain Virat Kohli led the way with a brilliant ton, MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik kept their calm to seal the deal with six wickets in hand.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and powered by Shaun Marsh’s 131 and Glenn Maxwell’s 48, posted a total of 298 for 9 in 50 overs. They once looked strong to take the score beyond 300 but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami, who shared seven Australian wickets among them, restricted the hosts to below 300 by picking some quick wickets in the dying overs.

Yet, the target was steep and considering the fact that India could not achieve 289 the other night in Sydney, their batsmen had to produce something special. The visitors started off well with all their batsmen chipping in with valuable contributions to see their side win and keep the series alive.

Dhoni finished it off in style, once again

Congratulations poured in as India bagged the much-needed victory and among the well-wishers was former India cricketer Suresh Raina. An old warrior who played alongside Dhoni on a number of occasions in the national team and continues to do so in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, lauded the former India captain for hitting a six off the first ball of the final over to blow away all the tension.

The six not only gave Dhoni his second straight fifty after a long time but also meant that India required just one run to win in five balls which the ace wicketk-eeper picked in the very next ball. Raina also did not forget to mention about Dhoni’s knack of hitting the maximum in the death overs of matches to finish things off in style. He had done the same in the final of the 2011 World Cup as well.

He also didn’t forget to laud Virat Kohli for his excpetional knock and congratulated Team India for levelling the series and taking it to the decider which will be played on Friday at the MCG.
