The first of the four-match Test series between South Africa and Australia that saw a comfortable win for the visitors did gather decent attention much due to the David Warner-Quinton de Kock altercation. The chirping on the field with some verbal volleys being exchanged is the way to go when two teams of such calibre lock horns.

In the pre-match conference before the 2nd Test at Port Elizabeth, South African captain Faf du Plessis accepted the fact that players did cross the line considering the heated arguments that happened in the first Test. Being the skipper, a part of the job is to calm things down and as a result, both the captains were even reprimanded before the 2nd Test for failing to control their teams.

Australia is a team that’ll always sledge

Aware of the aggressive brand of cricket that the Aussie fancy playing, the home captain mentioned that he expects the constant on-field chirping would continue in the entire series. He reckons there is no harm in such healthy banters as it is good for the game and does bring the best out of the players if they don’t cross a certain limit.

In his views, Australians are the ones who would always try to get under your skin by continuous sledging, prompting the opposition to commit mistakes. They do feature few characters who are always committed towards that route. Having played against them before, Faf is aware of the prospects that lie ahead for his team as he doesn’t expect the opposition to change overnight in terms of their on-field behaviour.

Role of a captain

When things go down south it is often the leader who comes under the scrutiny as it is his responsibility to manage his players and keep them in the right space.

The altercation between Warner and de Kock has certainly helped the cause as one can now expect even more fierceness from both the side in the matches to follow.
