Preview

India Women and Australia Women are set to lock horns in the second game of the three-match T20I series on Saturday, October 9 at the Carrara Oval in Queensland. The opening game on Thursday, October 7 turned out to be a damp squib as rain played spoilsport and it was called off.

After being put in to bat first, Team India had a decent outing as they scored 131 runs off 15.2 overs, meaning that they scored above eight runs per over. Jemimah Rodrigues played a wonderful hand after missing the ODIs and the one-off Test. She was in good form in the inaugural Women’s Hundred.

The other Indian batters also got into double digits, but failed to convert. Ashleigh Gardner was the standout Australian bowler as she picked up the wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Tayla Vlaeminck bowled with a lot of heart, but she would have liked to get a wicket or two.

The pitch at the Carrara Oval in Queensland has been a good one for batting. Even in the previous game, the Indian batters had it fairly easy. The deck isn’t expected to change a whole lot and hence, chasing should be the way forward for both teams.

Probable best batter of the match

Alyssa Healy– Australia Women

Alyssa Healy has been a fulcrum of the Australia Women’s batting lineup for quite a few years. She doesn’t mind throwing the kitchen sink at everything. She hardly allows the bowlers to settle into a rhythm. Healy didn’t get a chance to bat in the previous game and she’d want to get on the field. Her top score of 90 in T20Is is also her highest in the format.

Probable best bowler of the match

Sophie Molineux- Australia Women

Sophie Molineux is generally known for maintaining great line and lengths. In the ODI series, she was the standout bowler and she picked up three wickets even in the Day-Night pink-balls. The left-arm spinner managed to hit the right channels. In the first T20I, she got the wicket of Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, but he went for 23 runs in two overs.

Today’s match prediction: Australia Women to win the match.
