Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been one of the best and most consistent limited-overs batters in the last few years having occupied the top spots in the ICC batters’ rankings in both T20Is and ODIs. Apart from the international arena, Babar has also made his presence felt while playing County cricket.

While Azam has featured in County matches in the past, he won’t participate in the upcoming T20 Blast 2022 amid national duties. Meanwhile, the batting superstar has been chosen as Somerset’s best-ever T20 player in a fan survey ahead of the upcoming  T20 Blast.

Somerset honors Babar Azam ahead of 2022 T20 Blast

According to reports in Cricket Pakistan, Babar Azam got this special mention for his brilliant run in the past for the illustrious cricket club. Azam, who had represented Somerset in the 2020 edition, enjoyed a dream run where he amassed 218 runs in seven innings averaging 36.33. The right-handed batter even smashed a brilliant hundred against Glamorgan.

More importantly, the Pakistan captain registered a unique feat of 5000 T20 runs, having donned the Somerset kit and in the process, he also went on to feature among the batting icons Chris Gayle and Shaun Marsh to become only the third-fastest batter to reach the landmark.

The 27-year-old was one of the most expensive and sought-after players in The Hundred draft that was held last month. However, he refused to participate in the second edition of the tournament due to personal reasons. Babar would now be focusing more on international cricket with a tight 12-month schedule for Pakistan which will also see them playing in two multi-nation tournaments- Asia Cup (August-September) and the T20 World Cup in Australia which will be played in October-November.

Babar Azam had a very good T20 World Cup last year in the UAE where he finished as the leading run-scorer with 303 runs and led Pakistan to the semifinals where they lost to the eventual champions Australia.
