Babar Azam hasn’t scored a hundred for long time which he needs to do regularly: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has expressed his concerns on Babar Azam’s inability to get big hundreds. In the recently-concluded Test series in West Indies, the Pakistan skipper managed to get a couple of fifties but didn’t manage to convert it into a big hundred. He made a 55 in the second innings of the first Test and a fighting 75 in the first innings of the second Test. 

Inzamam explained that it is important for a player like Babar to score hundreds. He noted that it has been a while since the Pakistan captain has scored a century and that he doesn’t like to watch a classy player as Babar getting out making 70s and 80s. Inzamam said that he wants Babar to become the role model of this side, which is going to be important moving forward.

“I have seen for a long time that Babar Azam hasn’t scored a hundred. He is the type of player that we like to see regularly score runs and hundreds. He should be doing that because he is at his peak right now. I do not like Babar getting out in the 70s or 80s. He has to play the big knocks and be the role model for the batsmen in the side. This is very important,” Inzamam said on his Youtube channel. 

Furthermore, the former batter made a point or two about Mohammad Rizwan. According to Inzamam, who has also served as the chief selector for the Pakistan team, noted that the type of knocks that Rizwan is playing will not help his team in the long run. The former batter then praised Fawad Alam, who has scored four Test centuries in the last four series, including the recent one in Jamaica. 

“[Mohammad] Rizwan has been performing well and should also be playing big knocks. 20’s and 30’s don’t help you against big sides. I give credit to Fawad Alam who plays big knocks once he gets settled. He takes it to at least three figures which is a very good thing. Other batsmen should also follow suit,” he added.

Pakistan, after losing the first Test by just a wicket, managed to get past the Windies at the Sabina Park in Kingston in Jamaica. Alam scored a magnificent 124 in the first innings which laid a good foundation. Pakistan bowlers were brilliant as well, especially Shaheen Shah Afridi, who picked up 18 wickets during the series and was named the man of the series.
