With 280 runs needed on Day five, West Indies had a realistic chance of winning the second Test. However, Pakistan came out all guns blazing and secured a 109-run win at Sabina Park in Jamaica. Subsequently, Babar Azam and Co. drew level in the two-match series.

Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up a six-fer in the first innings and he carried the momentum in the second innings as well. The left-armer started the day after getting rid of nightwatchman Alzarri Joseph. Thereafter, Hasan Ali chipped in with two crucial wickets.

Jason Holder shows some fight

The pacer got rid of Nkrumah Bonner and Roston Chase and reduced the hosts to 73 for the loss of four wickets. From there on, Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers and former skipper Jason Holder tried to show some fight, but their efforts went in vain.

Holder top-scored with 47 before Nauman Ali removed him. Afridi delivered the final blows after he picked up Mayers’ wicket followed by the one of Joshua Da Silva. Nauman got three wickets as well. The Caribbean team was eventually shot out for 219 in 83.2 overs.

Babar Azam aware of Jamaica assisting spinners

After the game, Babar, the Pakistan skipper, stated that it was his partnership with Fawad Alam that turned out to be crucial. He also had words of praise for Nauman Ali and talked about the reasons behind picking him. Moreover, Babar heaped praise on Afridi for picking up 10 wickets in the game.

“It was a very important game for us especially after losing the first Test. The way we played, right from my partnership with Fawad to taking the wickets on the final day, made me really proud. Afridi bowled really well in the first innings, then we scored quickly to put them in before stumps on day four. The plan was to go till 330-340 and then have a go at them,” Babar said.

“We had to level the series and hence had to take bold decisions. Nauman also played a crucial role and his two wickets were very important. We knew there would be some assistance for the spinners on day five and hence we played Nauman. He (Afridi) is a great talent for Pakistan and he’s improving day by day, I am very lucky to have him lead the attack,” he added.
