Bangladesh had the upper hand for the most part of the Chattogram Test. Even before the start of the fifth day’s play against the West Indies, Mominul Haque and Co were the firm favourites to win. But Kyle Mayers’ double century robbed them of a victory. Mayers also got the apt support from Nkrumah Bonner.
The Caribbean team’s victory at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium meant that Bangladesh remained as the only team in the World Test Championship to be stuck on no points. The second and final Test is set to get underway on Thursday, February 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The Tigers have a lot of thinking to do, especially in the bowling department, which was found wanting in the final day’s play last time. Before the game, they have had to endure blows as well. Shakib Al Hasan and opening batsman Shadman Islam have been ruled out to injury concerns.

Bangladesh
Soumya Sarkar has replaced Shakib in the squad and as per the team management, he’s likely to open with Tamim Iqbal. The Tigers also have Saif Hassan as their other specialist opening batter. There’s also a chance for Mohammad Mithun to play since he bats in the middle order. Najmul Hossain had a torrid time last time around and he might get another chance to make amends.
Probable XI
Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque (C), Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das (WK), Mohammad Mithun/Saif Hassan, Mehidy Hasan, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

West Indies
The visitors aren’t expected to tinker with their winning combination. Sheyne Moseley and John Campbell didn’t get runs with the bat and it’s a chance for them to make amends. The others stepped up despite not having a lot of experience. The track in Mirpur is expected to turn and hence, the role of Rahkeem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican would be crucial. Permaul may also get a chance.

Players to watch out for
Mehidy Hasan Miraz- Bangladesh
Mehidy Hasan Miraz had an outstanding outing in Chattogram after he picked eight wickets and scored his maiden Test ton in the first innings. In Mirpur, his records are worth envying. In five Tests, the youngster has picked 29 wickets from five matches. The last time he played a Test against the West Indies in Mirpur, he picked up 12 wickets, including a seven-wicket haul in the first innings.
Rahkeem Cornwall- West Indies
Rahkeem Cornwall did a reasonable job with the ball in the previous game. In the Tigers’ second innings, he picked up some early wickets. He picked up five wickets, though he would have wanted to make a bigger impact. In Mirpur, he might have the pitch assisting him a bit more, and hence, he could express himself. Cornwall is also more than a handy batsman and can get useful runs.
