Bangladesh announce ODI squad for the three-match series against Windies

The ODI series gets underway on July 22 in Guyana and the last match will be played on July 28 in St Kitts.

Bangladesh announced the One-Day International (ODI) squad for the tour of Windies where they will play two Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is. There are as many as six changes in the squad from the one that played the Tri-nation series at home against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. They lost the final and following that also the three-match T20I series to Afghanistan in India. As a result, the national selectors have heavily altered the squad for this tour.

Mustafizur Rahman is back in the ODI team, the pacer last featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and had to miss out on the T20I series against Afghanistan due to a foot injury. He is also likely to be out of the squad for the Tests in the Caribbean. Liton Das is back in the fold and he takes Imrul Kayes’ place who played the last series.

Along with Kayes, the likes of Nasir Hossain, Mohammad Mithun, Sunzamul Islam, Abul Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin don’t feature in the team. The selectors have done their best to find players who match the same skillset.

Considering the team’s recent form and the bigger battle that awaits them in 2019, Bangladesh will not only want to win this series but also build a team that can take them a long way in the World Cup. Every team is now focusing on the bigger picture and thus according emphasis on that, it is important for the Bangladesh team management to trust in the process and give youngsters a longer rope.
