The 2018 Asia Cup is knocking at the door. All five of Asian Test playing nations are ready to take the field from 15 September in UAE, and Hong Kong also joins them as the sixth team after winning the Asia Cup qualifier that just concluded in Malaysia. These teams are divided into two groups. Bangladesh are also a strong contender for the multi-nation tournament

They have changed their brand of cricket ever since the 2015 World Cup. They beat Pakistan, India and South Africa on their home soil in the recent past, and have also played eye-catching cricket abroad. Along with senior guys, Bangladeshi youths are also making a huge impact on their game. Ahead of the six-nation extravaganza, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza revealed their goal in the tournament.

We have to see if we can make the Super Four

“We are not so far from the other team. I think India has a good chance (to win the title), and Pakistan will play at their home-like ground. So, they also have the opportunity (to clinch the trophy). But I want to say that, we have the ability to beat them too. We have to see if we can make the Super Four by playing good cricket in the group phase,” Mashrafe said at a press meet on Thursday at Mirpur.

“After that, there are many calculations. If everything goes in the right way, we won’t be so far from other teams. We may have to face the tough situation on many occasions. Because we did not play in UAE as a team before. So, the condition will not be easy for us. Overall, we are thinking from every angle,” he added.

This year’s Asia Cup will be played in the 50-over format, unlike the previous one which was played in the T20 format. A high-class 50-over event is expected in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Every cricket enthusiast is of the opinion that any team can make the headlines on any given day in the Asia Cup.
