Australia’s premier T20 League, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), is all set to feature Bangladesh players Rumana Ahmed and Khadiza Tul Kobra. This will not only mark a great achievement for the two cricketers but also help in fortifying their nation’s stand in the scenario of Women’s cricket. The tournament will be held between the period of December 9-February 4.

While spin bowling all-rounder, Rumana Ahmed will find a place in the Brisbane Heat, Khadiza will participate in the tournament for Melbourne Stars. For Ahmed, who’s also the captain of her national side, this will be a new feather in her cap. Both players will be joining their respective teams in the middle of the tournament and have already been sent their jerseys from their franchises.

Bangladesh captain’s dream comes true

Bangladesh captain, Rumana Ahmed had expressed her desire to be a part of the glamorous tournament in the previous year. As reported by the Dhaka Tribune, she said, “I dreamt of playing in this league. This is a big tournament for women cricketers. There are a lot of good cricketers there.” As a team, Bangladesh have improved significantly in the last few years and the same reflects in their two main players receiving call-ups to the Big Bash League. Rumana will fly for Australia on January 10 and her teammate Khadiza will take off on January 16.

Earlier, India’s Harmanpreet Kaur became the first woman cricketer from the country to become a part of the WBBL. She was signed on by the Sydney Thunder in the 2016 edition of the tournament. Her Indian teammate, Smriti Mandhana was also contracted in the same year by Brisbane Heat, becoming the second Indian player to achieve the feat. Currently, Indian Women’s middle-order batter, Veda Krishnamurthy is a part of the Hobart Hurricanes franchise in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
