Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza says Bangladesh have nothing to fear

Bangladesh has edged West Indies in the top 8 ODI Team Rankings, which has helped them qualify for the Champions Trophy 2017. The once upon a time underdogs of world cricket have taken the game by storm with some smart batting and an outstanding bowling in the last couple of years. The Tigers’ this time round will be looking to get ahead of the other teams, causing a few upsets on the way.

The experienced right-arm pacer Mashrafe Mortaza has been given the opportunity to lead the side for the very last time in an ICC event. This Champions Trophy also happens to be the first one for many-a-Bangladesh players, who have just made their debut in the last year-or-so.

Champions Trophy experience

Although it the second Champions Trophy that the skipper will be a part of after playing in 2006, he said that it is important for him to stay focused and play the game as they have been playing in the past three to four years. He additionally believes that that the Tigers’ deserve this golden opportunity, which he wants the team to utilise.

On being asked whether the captain was nervous, he replied to the Sportstar saying, “No, not really. Only big teams feel nervous. We have nothing to lose. I don’t think the boys are concerned, we’ve been to Ireland and played good cricket. If we play our best cricket, you never know what will happen.”

The threat of England and Australia

He was additionally questioned whether his team could beat the likes of England and Australia to which he replied “People think we don’t have a chance against the likes of England and Australia. Yes, in these conditions it will be hard, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have faith in ourselves. On our day, we can beat any side and move to the second round.” Mortaza said.

As per the Bangladeshi captain, England is a very good side at home, and he believes that his boys have the talent and the ability to back up their 2015 World Cup victory and the 2017 victories to come handy during the course of the match in the Champions Trophy.
