Bangladesh started off brilliantly against England before Moeen Ali rescued his side with a fifty after overcoming a string of LBW decisions overturned by DRS. He got a good support from Jonny Bairstow who scored a fifty continuing his good form in the longer format. Debutant Mehedi Hasan picked up a 5-fer for his side as England ended the day at 258/7 after a slight recovery. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day.

1 – Jonny Bairstow is now the first player to score 1000+ Test runs in a calendar year while batting at no. or lower. Previous highest was 984 runs by VVS Laxman in 2002.

3 – Number of debutants featured in Bangladesh XI in this game. Last time 3 or more debutants played for Bangladesh in a test was in 2008 against New Zealand.

5 – Wickets taken by Mehedi Hasan Miraz on the first day of the test. He became only the 3rd bowler to take 5 wickets on the opening day of his Test career.

1044 – Runs scored by Bairstow as wicketkeeper in this year in Tests. He became the 2nd keeper after Andy Flower (1045) to score 1000+ test runs in a calendar year.
