While the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup 2021 concluded just a few days ago, team management and the boards would have started planning for the 2022 event. After all, the next edition of the gala tournament is less than a year away. Bangladesh and Pakistan would be kick-starting their preparation against each other with a three-match T20I series, starting from November 19.
Although Bangladesh endured a horrendous run in this year’s global tournament, they must back themselves to beat Pakistan as they are the host of this series. Notably, the Bangla Tigers defeated teams like Australia and New Zealand at home earlier this year. Hence, Pakistan can’t afford to be complacent. However, the home team has many issues to look upon as they lost all five games in the Super-12 stage of this year’s global tournament.
They even lost to associates Scotland in the preliminary round. On the contrary, Pakistan enjoyed a sensational run in the tournament, being the only side to win all games in the Super 12 round. However, a tantalizing five-wicket defeat against eventual champions Australia in the semi-final caused their ouster. Nevertheless, the Men in Green are firm favourites to win this series and it would be interesting to see how Mahmudullah’s men counter this challenge.
Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers ahead of the three-match T20I series between Bangladesh and Pakistan:
Head to head: Pakistan firmly dominates Bangladesh in terms of head-to-head record in T20Is. These two sides have met in 12 T20Is before, out of which, 10 games landed in Pakistan’s favour while Bangladesh won the remaining two times.
60 – Mahmudullah needs 60 runs to become the first Bangladesh player to complete 2000 T20I runs.
57 – Mustafizur Rahman has taken 57 wickets in T20 matches in 2021, the second-most for any bowler. Only Rashid Khan (64) is above him on this list.
4 – Bangladesh have gotten bundled out under 100 for four times in T20Is in 2021, most for a full-member team.
73 – Afif Hossain needs 73 runs to complete 500 runs in T20 cricket.
4 – Taskin Ahmed needs four scalps to complete 100 wickets in international cricket.
2 – Hasan Ali needs two big hits to complete 50 sixes in international cricket.
40 – Shadab Khan is 40 runs shy of completing 1000 runs in international cricket.
