Bangladesh cricket has recently strained to put together a set of coaches after their shambolic tour of South Africa last year. They roped in Gary Kirsten, the World Cup-winning coach, in order to find new coaches. Last year, Chandika Hathurasingha stepped down from his role and they were without a head coach until June this year when Steve Rhodes was appointed as their coach.

On Friday, the management also roped in Neil McKenzie as their batting coach. The retired cricketer has now joined the team in Guyana ahead of their second ODI against the Windies at Providence Stadium in Guyana as per reports in www.thedailystar.net. Bangladesh won their first match at the same venue and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series a couple of days earlier.

Bangladesh’s impressive start to ODI series

Tamim Iqbal notched his tenth century and he, along with Shakib Al Hasan compiled a 207-run stand to build a platform for an onslaught. Mushfiqur Rahim threw the kitchen sink at everything in the death overs to lift his team to 279 runs in 50 overs. During the run-chase, the bowlers of the visiting team dished out some immaculate line and lengths to put a lid on the batsmen.

Mustafizur Rahman, who was suffering from a foot injury, also played his first international match, after quite a while. Mashrafe Mortaza, who was earlier not scheduled to travel West Indies owing to his ill wife, turned out for them. Moreover, he emerged as one of their gun bowlers as he finished with figures of 10-1-37-4. He also churned out 41 dot deliveries to curb the opposition batsmen.

Mustafizur also was impressive and nipped out the crucial wickets of Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell. Off-break bowler Mehidy Hasan Miraz and fast-bowler Rubel Hossain finished with one wicket each. Mortaza and Co would now be keen to win the next match and seal the fate of the series.
