Melbourne Renegades won the eighth edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) in a stunning way by defeating the Melbourne Stars at the Docklands Stadium. It was an amazing turnaround for the Renegades as they affected a collapse of the opposition while defending a meagre total in the final. The path wasn’t easy for them though coming into the final. They had to beat the in-form Sydney Sixers in the semi-final during which Cameron Boyce got out in a bizarre manner.

The game had gone down the wire as the Men in Red were chasing a mammoth total of 181 runs in 20 overs. The equation came down to seven runs off the last over with Daniel Christian and Boyce batting well together. Ben Dwarshius was handed over the responsibility by the Sixers to defend the runs.

What happened?

Cameron Boyce shuffled across his crease even as Dwarshius came running to bowl first delivery of the final over. The bowler, in an attempt to cramp the batsman, delivered it in his legs and Boyce tried to hoick the ball. He wasn’t successful in his attempt and could only eke out a leg-bye. However, in the process, Boyce had hit the stumps with his leg.

The batsman was unaware of getting close to the timber when he shuffled and got out in the most bizarre manner giving a slightest of hopes to the Sixers in the semi-final. Christian was the man for the Renegades who won them the game to progress through to the final with only one ball remaining.

Here’s the video:

Daniel Christian was also the key player in the final for the Melbourne Renegades. He came out to bat at 63/5 after 10 overs and then played until the end to take his team to a competitive total. He struck vital blows with the ball as well and deservedly won the Man of the Match award.
