The Big Bash League (BBL) is rolling along nicely at the moment. The 36th match of the season will witness the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat lock horns for the second time as the former side had won the contest last time around despite being an away team. This is the best chance for the Heat to avenge their previous defeat and both the teams are in some desperate need of wins to get under their belt to recover from the bottom half of the table.
Brisbane, however, are also coming off a huge controversy that has been created due to a floodlight failure at the Gabba in their previous game. The Thunder applied to be awarded two points after being in the winning position according to them, Brendon McCullum took to Twitter to lash out at them. The focus should better be back on cricket for them now if they are hoping to qualify for the knockouts.
The story is not much different for the Sixers. They are at the sixth place at the moment with four wins from nine matches and will be looking to make the most of the home games now. Moises Henriques will be hoping for a change in fortunes to avoid the hat-trick of losses. For that to happen though the Men in Pink should endure a decent outing in all the departments given the fact that their opponent have some superstars in their line-up.
The Sixers have won only one out of three games so far at the SCG so far this season. Two matches have been low-scoring affairs and the hosts have lost both. Another low-scoring game is in the offing even as thunderstorms are predicted during the match timings. There is 47-51 percent chance of rain between 8 PM and 10 PM and this will certainly change the thinking for the team winning the toss.
The Sixers have named an unchanged squad for this encounter and might play the same side with the spinners expected to come into the action. Jack Edwards continues to get more chances while Daniel Hughes and Jordan Silk also need to deliver consistently alongside Henriques. James Vince’s addition to the team hasn’t done wonders so far but he is a fantastic player to be ignored.
Tom Curran has carried the team so far with his all-round skills and is making a case to promote from the next game. When he comes to bat at number eight, the match is almost over and despite scoring 30-40 odd runs, there is no use. The Sixers should look to use him in a better way even as Steve O’Keefe and Ben Manenti are expected wreck havoc on the slow pitch.
Probable XI: Jack Edwards, Daniel Hughes, James Vince, Moises Henriques (c), Jordan Silk, Josh Phillipe (wk), Tom Curran, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwashius, Ben Manenti, Steve O Keefe.
The Heat have added Matt Kuhnemann in the line-up but he might have to wait for his chance. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mitchell Swepson are doing a good job and the visitors are unlikely to play three spinners. Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn continue to be key for them while Max Bryant has also been in superb form. It is important for the Heat for one of this trio to click.
Ben Cutting is also in decent nick both with the bat and ball while Jimmy Peirson has performed whenever given the opportunity. Brendan Doggett and Josh Lalor are the other pace bowlers in the line-up.
Probable XI: Max Bryant, Brendon McCullum, Chris Lynn (c), Jimmy Peirson (wk), Ben Cutting, Alex Ross, Jack Prestwidge, Josh Lalor, Brendan Doggett, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
