The Brisbane Heat didn’t start like the way they would have hoped for as they suffered a big loss in the opening match under their new captain Chris Lynn. The defeat against Adelaide Strikers was mostly due to their batting failure. The middle-order batsmen failed to capitalize on a brisk start they got during the powerplay as they collapsed in the middle overs. They will now face the Hobart Hurricanes who will be playing their first game of the season.

The Hurricanes, led by Matthew Wade are a good mixture of young all-rounders from the domestic circuit. The bowling options in their side could put breaks on the attacking batsmen in the Brisbane Heat side. James Pattinson, who was the pick of the bowlers for Heat in the opening game, will miss the game against the Hurricanes owing personal reasons. Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann will replace Pattinson in the squad as the pacer will be the best man at the wedding of a close friend.

Match Details:

The 5th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) will be played between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Carrara Oval in Queensland.

The match starts at 6:00 PM local time (8:00 AM GMT) (1:30 PM IST).

The game will be live on Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD. Streaming available on Sony Liv.

Pitch Condition/Report:

Carrara Oval returned to hosting cricket from this season. The one-off T20I which this venue hosted last month between Australia and South Africa turned out to be a 10-over affair. The shortened game did show the slowish nature of the drop-in pitch used at the venue.

Squads:

Brisbane Heat:

Chris Lynn (C), Brendon McCullum, Max Bryant, Sam Heazlett, Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Matt Kuhnemann, Brendon Doggett, Josh Lalor, Jimmy Pierson, Mark Steketee, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Mitch Swepson.

Hobart Hurricanes:

Matthew Wade (C), Jofra Archer, George Bailey, Johan Botha, Alex Doolan, Jake Doran, James Faulkner, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Simon Milenko, David Moody, Clive Rose, D’Arcy Short.

Probable XI:

Brisbane Heat:

Chris Lynn (C), Brendon McCullum, Max Bryant, Sam Heazlett, Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Jimmy Pierson, Brendon Doggett, Mark Steketee, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Mitch Swepson.

Hobart Hurricanes:

Matthew Wade (C), D’Arcy Short, Ben McDermott, George Bailey, David Moody, Johan Botha, James Faulkner, Simon Milenko, Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith, Clive Rose.

Power Picks:

Mitchell Swepson looked good to take a wicket on almost every ball he bowled but was unlucky to finish with figures of 1/27. He could be handy at the Carrara Oval if he finds some grip from the surface. Opener Max Bryant has the potential of making it big but tried one too many in the previous match.

Best Playing XI:

Matthew Wade (C), D’Arcy Short, Ben McDermott, Chris Lynn, Max Bryant, Johan Botha, Ben Cutting, Simon Milenko, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Mitchell Swepson, Jofra Archer.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Chris Lynn is always a perfect choice for multipliers in the Big Bash League. His consistency and the slaughter hasn’t been matched by anyone else for a longer time. Jofra Archer comes with lots of expectations after the way he performed in the BBL and other T20 leagues in the last 18 months. Ben McDermott and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are alternatives as captain and vice-captain.

Expert Advice:

Joe Burns will be handy as he is capable of contributing with the ball as well. He can be picked ahead of one of the two all-rounders from the Hurricanes – Milenko and Botha.

Probable Winners:

Brisbane Heat could bounce back if they can handle the Hobart Hurricanes’ bowling attack.
