The ongoing season of Big Bash League (BBL) has managed to light up Australia as the cricketing extravaganza is known to create the same excitement like the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricket Australia (CA) has decided to thrive on the umpire’s decision in this tournament going against the usage of DRS and it almost backfired on them in the 24th match between the Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes.

After opting to bowl first, the Renegades were all over the opposition batsmen. At 11/2, the Hurricanes needed their ace batsman D’Arcy Short to play a big knock. But the third over bowled by Usman Khan saw him walking back to the dugout but not before some confusion as the umpire had almost made a blunder.

Bouncer works for Usman

Usman Khan bowled a bouncer to Short which he failed to duck under and was hit on the gloves before the bowler himself sprinted to take a catch. A vociferous appeal followed only for the umpire to deny them. At the same time, D’Arcy Short knew that he had hit and presuming that umpire will give him out, he started to walk and in split second stopped after understanding what had transpired.

Hilariously, the on-field umpire, watching him walk, changed his decision and raised the finger. The Renegades were left distraught at first for not being given out but eventually everything was fine in the end. A comical error could’ve raised the debate whether DRS should be introduced in the BBL or not.

As far as the match is concerned, George Bailey played a defining knock of 70* to propel the Hurricanes to competitive total. Ben McDermott supported him well with a half-century and despite that, the Renegades are looking the favourites to seal the deal in this game and break the five-match winning streak of Hobart in the ongoing season.
