The enthralling journey of BBL 2019-20 continues with another thrilling encounter as Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades in Match 37 of the tournament.
Melbourne Renegades have failed to live up to their expectations so far in the season. Despite being equipped with a robust squad, Renegades have failed to win a single match so far in the league. The Dan Christian-led side has suffered defeats in all nine matches of their campaign and are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table.
In their previous match against Adelaide Strikers, Renegades suffered a thumping 63-run defeat as they managed to gather only 110 runs on the board while chasing a target of 174 runs. No other batsman apart from Beau Webster was able to gather runs on the scoreboard. Webster smashed 49 runs off 33 balls and emerged as a lone warrior for Renegades. Dan Christian and Co. will be eager to register their first victory of the season before the culmination of BBL 2019-20.
Sydney Thunder also have had a topsy-turvy campaign so far in the tournament. In their nine matches so far, Thunder have gathered only four wins and are currently poised fifth in the points table with nine points. The Callum Ferguson-led side will be eager to break into the top half of the table. In their previous match against Hobart Hurricanes, Thunder registered a comprehensive four-wicket victory on the back of some impressive batting performances from Alex Hales, Usman Khawaja and Alex Ross.
Pitch and Conditions
The Manuka Oval has hosted only one match so far in BBL 2019-20, which was abandoned mid-way due to smog being worse than the usual limit. Not many matches have been played on this venue in the past but traditionally, is it regarded as a good batting wicket. The weather is expected to be cloudy with a slim chance of a shower. The temperature is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celcius according to AccuWeather.
Team Combination
Sydney Thunder
Thunder’s top-order comprising Callum Ferguson and Usman Khawaja have delivered impressive knocks in the initial overs. Alex Hales also restored his form and muscled 55 runs in his previous match against Hobart Hurricanes. He was also assisted by Alex Ross’ 32-run knock. Thunder’s bowling force will be guided by the bowing duo of Chris Morris and Daniel Sams. Both the bowlers had picked up two wickets each in their previous match.
Predicted XI: Callum Ferguson (c), Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales, Chris Morris, Jay Lenton(wk), Gurinder Sandhu, Alex Ross, Liam Bowe, Arjun Nair, Brendan Doggett, Daniel Sams
Melbourne Renegades
Melbourne Renegades are equipped with many top-order batsmen in their arsenal who can provide them with a flying start. Sam Harper and Beau Webster have also delivered impressive performances with the bat lately along with veteran Shaun Marsh. Webster, who smashed 49 runs in his previous match, will be eager to carry his run-scoring spree.
However, dull bowling performances have been a prominent reason behind Renegades’ dismal form this season. Along with skipper Dan Christian, Mohammad Nabi and Cameron Boyce will be steering Renegades’ bowling force.
Predicted XI: Shaun Marsh, Beau Webster, Sam Harper (wk) Daniel Christian (c), Tom Cooper, Marcus Harris, Mohammad Nabi, Joe Mennie, Samit Patel, Cameron Boyce, Jack Wildermuth
