Perth Scorchers ended 2020 on a high with their maiden win of the BBL 2020-21 as they thumped Adelaide Strikers in the New Year’s Eve game. Jhye Richardson led a quality bowling performance of the Scorchers as the home team could only make 146/9 in their 20 overs. Alex Carey was the lone man standing in the Strikers’ line-up with a 59-ball 82 that included 13 boundaries.

Jason Roy gave a perfect start for the Scorchers with a 32-ball 49 after which they lost three wickets in a quick span. However, Mitchell Marsh (38* off 24) and Josh Inglis (44* off 31) put an unbeaten 67-run stand in just 43 balls to hand Perth a 7-wicket win with 14 balls to spare.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Perth Scorchers’ victory during the SCO vs STR game:

End of Scorchers’ losing streak:

4 – Perth Scorchers put an end to Adelaide Strikers’ spree of four consecutive wins against them in the BBL. The last instance of Scorchers defeating Strikers in this league took place during December 2018 where Adelaide team got bowled for only 88. Scorchers, in fact, lost their previous three games against Strikers while chasing a target.

7 – The 7-wicket win for the Perth Scorchers on Thursday was their first victory in the last seven BBL matches. In the previous six games, the Scorchers lost as many as five matches while another ended without a result. Scorchers never went winless in more than four successive matches before this streak.

2015 – Scorchers also ended their 4-match losing streak in the BBL games at the Adelaide Oval as their last win here came back in 2014-15 season. Scorchers won three of the eight matches they played at the Adelaide Oval but Thursday’s win was their first while chasing across four attempts.

Another New Year’s Eve defeat for Strikers:

2 – Adelaide Strikers have lost the New Year’s Eve game for the 2nd year in a row as they lost to Sydney Thunder by three runs last time around. Until the end of 2018, the Strikers won all the six BBL matches they played on the New Year’s Eve. Prior to the Thursday’s win, the Scorchers featured on New Year even only once – Lost to Strikers by 6 wickets in 2013.

Richardson runs through Strikers yet again:

15 – Jhye Richardson claimed as many as 15 wickets in the BBL against the Adelaide Strikers from only seven games. He has picked those 15 wickets at a strike rate of 10.4 and an average of just 11.73 against the Strikers. Richardson’s 15 wickets are the 2nd most by any player in the league against Strikers behind James Faulkner’s 16 scalps.

Milestone for Tye in milestone game:

200 – Andrew Tye completed 200 wickets in Twenty20 cricket when he dismissed Rashid Khan in what was his 150th appearance in this format. Tye is now the 6th Australian bowler to bag 200+ T20 wickets and also the fastest by bettering Shaun Tait who got there in 151 games. Overall, Tye is the 3rd fastest among the pacers to 200 T20 wickets only behind Umar (147) and Lasith Malinga (149).

Carey’s boundary bash:

12 – The 12 fours struck by Alex Carey during SCO vs STR game are the joint-most fours by any player in a BBL inning for the Adelaide Strikers. Carey himself hit 12 fours during his 56-ball 100 against the Hobart Hurricanes in the 2017-18 season.
