Perth Scorchers extended their winning streak to five matches in the BBL 2020-21 with a huge 9-wicket win at the Perth Stadium on Tuesday. The Scorchers’ bowling unit did not let the Hobart Hurricanes get away with easy runs as the visiting team made only 139 in 20 overs despite losing only 5 wickets. The fifty by D’Arcy Short (54 off 47) helped Hurricanes score 100 runs in the last 11 overs. Scorchers chased down the target of 140 in only 16.2 overs for the loss of one wicket as Jason Roy smashed an unbeaten 52-ball 74 while Liam Livingstone made 54 off 39 balls.

Scorchers’ first home win against Hurricanes:
1 – Hobart Hurricanes lost to the Perth Scorchers for the first time in the BBL at the Perth Stadium. Hurricanes defeated Scorchers once each in the 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20 seasons.
A big win for the Scorchers:
9 – The SCO vs HUR game became only the 2nd instance of the Hobart Hurricanes losing a BBL match by nine or more wickets. They also lost to Sydney Sixers by nine wickets during the 2018-19 season match at the SCG.
This is also the 9th instance in the BBL where the Scorchers won by a margin of nine or more wickets. However, only once they won a BBL game by 10 wickets – against Melbourne Renegades in the 2015-16 season.
Low total by Hurricanes despite wickets in hand:
139/5 – The total of 139/5 by the Hobart Hurricanes is now the 2nd lowest in the Big Bash League by any team for the loss of five or fewer wickets after batting out 20 overs. The lowest is 128/5 by Melbourne Stars also against the Perth Scorchers during the 2011-12 season at the MCG.
Roy’s maiden fifty in Australia:
74* – The unbeaten 74-run knock by Jason Roy during the SCO vs HUR game is his maiden fifty in Twenty20 cricket on Australian soil. Coming into the match, Roy scored only 327 runs at an average of 17.21 across 20 T20 innings in Australia.
A big opening stand for Scorchers:
123 – The partnership of 123 for the first wicket between Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone is now the highest for the Scorchers in the BBL against the Hobart Hurricanes. Their previous biggest stand against the Hurricanes was 109 for the 3rd wicket between Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh in the 2019-20 season.
Richardson only behind Johnson:
3 – Jhye Richardson has bowled a total of three maiden overs in the BBL thus far; the 2nd most by any bowler for Perth Scorchers behind Mitchell Johnson’s four maidens. Richardson is also the 9th player to bowl three or more maiden overs in the league history.
