Sydney Thunder put an end to their losing spree with a huge 46-run win against the table-toppers Sydney Sixers at the Adelaide Oval. Alex Hales set the tone for the Thunder’s innings with a 110-run knock coming in only 56 balls with 17 boundaries. Contributions from the other end did power Thunder finish strongly on 232/5. Sixers started well with 54 runs in first five overs but lost the momentum due to three quick wickets. They eventually finished with 186/5 in their 20 overs despite a fifty from Henriques.

A record total by Thunder:

232/5Sydney Thunder’s total of 232/5 is now the highest by any team in the history of Big Bash League. The previous highest was 223/8 by Melbourne Renegades against Brisbane Heat during the 2016-17 season.

Overall, Thunder’s total of 232/5 is the 3rd highest Twenty20 total on Australian soil. Victoria made 233/7 against New South Wales in 2006 while Australia posted 233/2 against Sri Lanka in the 2019 Adelaide T20I.


A record hundred from Hales:

110 – Alex Hales’ 110 is now the 2nd highest individual score in the BBL for the Sydney Thunder behind the 113* by Callum Ferguson in the 2018-19 season against the Perth Scorchers.

The 110-run knock by Hales is also the 2nd highest BBL score by an overseas player behind Luke Wright’s 117 for Melbourne Stars against Hobart Hurricanes in the 2011-12 season.

1038 – Alex Hales completed 1000 runs in the BBL while playing for the Sydney Thunder when he went past his individual score of 72. Hales is now the 4th player to complete 1000 BBL runs for the Sydney Thunder and his tally of 1038 runs is only behind Usman Khawaja (1654) and Callum Ferguson (1232).


Milestone game for Christian:

100 – Daniel Christian became the first player to feature in 100 matches in the Big Bash League during the SIX vs THU game. Christian played 30 games apiece for Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades, 28 matches for Hobart Hurricanes and 12 for Sydney Sixers in the ongoing season.


Hales and Henriques move on to top:

10 – Alex Hales now has ten fifty-plus scores in the Big Bash League which are now the joint-most by any overseas player. England’s Kevin Pietersen also has ten fifty-plus scores (10 fifties) in league history.

10 – The fifty during SIX vs THU game was the 10th for Moises Henriques in the BBL; all while playing for the Sydney Sixers. These are now the most fifties by any player for the Sixers alongside Josh Philippe (10) and Daniel Hughes (10).

  


Big season with the ball for the youngster:

20 – Tanveer Sangha’s 20 wickets in this tournament are the most by any player before turning 20 in an edition of BBL surpassing Rashid Khan’s 19 scalps in 2017-18 season. Sangha’s 20 wickets are also the joint 2nd most by a spin bowler in a BBL edition.


McAndrew goes for plenty:

57 – The 57 runs conceded by Nathan McAndrew are now the most by any bowler in a BBL game while playing for Sydney Thunder. The previous most was 55 runs by Gurvinder Sandhu against Brisbane Heat in 2015-16 season.
