Sam Billings was on a roll in Sunday’s Big Bash League (BBL) fixture against Brisbane Heat. Coming to bat at number four, the wicketkeeper-batter scored runs all over the park and brought up a fiery half-century.  With the help of five fours and as many sixes, the dasher slammed 64 off just 27 deliveries as Sydney Thunder posted 196/7 while batting first at the Gabba in Brisbane.

While those big hits from Billings were far from Brisbane fielders’ reach, they brought the crowd in action. Two of his shots were caught by spectators in the stands, who looked delighted with their efforts. The first grab was witnessed when Billings smashed right-arm pacer James Bazley towards the mid-wicket region for a colossal six.

It went straight to a spectator’s hands who did no mistake whatsoever in collecting the ball. Billings then went after mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the 15th over. In order to put the youngster under pressure, Billings stepped down the track in the first very ball and deposited the ball towards wide on long-on. This time, a girl settled underneath the ball and took a safe catch. The official Twitter page of BBL shared videos of both grabs.

Speaking of how the game has panned out, Sydney Thunder got off to a terrific start with openers Alex Hales and Matthew Gilkes adding 55 runs for the first wicket in quick time. Youngster Jason Sangha, who arrived at number three, also joined the party and scored a fiery 39. The star of the show, however, was Sam Billings, who made absolute mockery of Brisbane bowlers.

Chasing a daunting target, the Brisbane-based side suffered a top-order collapse as Saqib Mahmood made the new ball talk. The right-arm pacer took four wickets in the first three overs as five of the top six batters couldn’t reach double figures. Hence, Sydney’s win seems just a matter of time.

Meanwhile, this will be an important with for the Chris Green-led side as the Thunder won just one of their first three games. That’s the exact scenario for the Heat as well. However, Sydney look set to add more points in their cabinet.
