Hobart Hurricanes extended their winning streak to four matches which is their longest in the last six seasons as Brisbane Heat suffered their first home defeat in the season. Like in the previous games, Hurricanes got away with a close win after a fightback from the home team who threatened to chase down 49 from the last three overs only to fall short by four runs. Earlier, D’Arcy Short scored his maiden century after getting out twice in two games in the 90s this season to power his side to 179/4 with a record innings of 122*.

All the stats and numbers that were created during a thrilling BBL encounter between Heat and Hurricanes:

1 – Alex Ross became the first player to be given out “obstructing the field” in a professional cricket game (FC or List A or T20) in Australia. Overall, Ross is the 9th player to be dismissed in the mode in Twenty20 format.


2 – D’Arcy Short became the 2nd player in the BBL history to score a hundred and take a wicket in the same game. Aaron Finch was the first player which he recorded against Melbourne Stars in 2012/13 season.


3 – In his last four outings in this BBL, D’Arcy Short scored over 90 runs in three innings. His last four BBL innings read 97, 96, 42 and 122*. Thus, D’Arcy Short became the first player with three scores of 90+ in the BBL. In the Twenty20 format, Virat Kohli is the only player to score 75+ in four consecutive innings.


68.15 – D’Arcy Short’s 122 runs accounted for 68.13 % of Hobart Hurricanes’ total of 179. This is the highest percentage of team’s runs a player scored in a completed innings in the BBL. George Bailey scored 62* of Hurricanes’ 91 in 2015/16 season against Sydney Sixers which is equivalent to 68.13 percent.


122* – D’Arcy Short’s unbeaten 122 is the highest individual innings in the Big Bash League history. He surpassed Luke Wright’s 117 that came against Hobart Hurricanes in the first ever BBL season. He also became the first player to score a century against Brisbane Heat as the 99 by Marcus Stoinis was the previous highest against Heat.


122* – The 122-run knock by Short is also the 2nd highest in a Twenty20 game in Australia. Shane Watson made 124* against India in a T20I game in 2016. Short’s century is only the 2nd in T20s at the Gabba as Chris Lynn scored 101 against Hurricanes in 2015/16.


406 – Short’s 406 runs in the 2017/18 Big Bash League are the 2nd most by any player in a BBL season. He stands only behind Shaun Marsh, who aggregated 412 runs in the 2012/13 season. Short’s 406 runs are also the most in the league stage of a BBL season surpassing Chris Lynn’s 378 runs in the 2015/16 season.
