Hobart Hurricanes opener DArcy Short was in a phenomenal hitting form in the Big Bash League encounter against the Brisbane Heat. The Heats faced the heat from the willow of Short at the Gabba. Short hammered a breathtaking ton in just 63 deliveries. The moment he reached his milestone, he shifted gears to another level altogether.

In the next five balls that he faced, he hammered three towering sixes. DArcy Short oozed some serious class as he carried his bat in the innings for the Hurricanes. He took a single on the penultimate ball of the Hurricanes innings to remain unbeaten on his ton. He played a whirlwind knock of 122 off just 69 deliveries with 8 fours and as many sixes.

When someone hits a total as big as that, one would assume the total to have exceeded the 200-run mark. But unfortunately for the Hobart Hurricanes, they could only muster 179/4 in their stipulated 20 overs. DArcy Short was arguably the lone ranger in the innings. He scored a whopping 69 per cent of the total runs scored by the team.

Now that shows some serious domination. Earlier in the game, the Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and otped to bat first. DArcy and Alex Doolan opened for the Hurricanes. Mark Steketee drew first blood for the Brisbane Heat as he got rid of Doolan in the very third over of the innings. Matthew Wade (16) and Ben McDermott (19) followed him shortly and could hardly time the ball.

Skipper George Bailey, who got dismissed on the final ball of the innings, scored 4 off 7 deliveries. So it was all about Short in the innings. He faced the bulk of the deliveries and obviously, scored the majority of the runs. Short reached his fifty in the 10th over.

Interestingly, this was his third fifty in the last four matches. Soon, he decided to up the ante and started hitting boundaries at will. He reached his ton in the penultimate over. He clobbered Brendon Doggett for a maximum to reach his ton. The final over saw Short hit a hat-trick of sixes to Steketee. With no Chris Lynn in the Heats lineup, the Hurricanes fancy their chances of a win in the game.

Here is how the Twitterati reacted DArcy Short massacre:
