With Christmas fast approaching and BBL enthusiasts on the lookout for top quality cricketing action, it cannot get bigger than this as the finalists of the last season Sydney Sixers battling it out against defending champions Perth Scorchers in an exciting clash which marks the first double-header of the tournament.
The Sixers led by Moises Henriques crumbled at a below-par score of 141 for the loss of 9 wickets in an embarrassing manner after failing to negotiate the guile of Mitchell Johnson who brought all his experience to the fore recording jaw-dropping figures conceding just 13 runs and swooping the vital wicket of Michael Lumb which broke the backbone of the Sixers. Teenage pace sensation Jhye Richardson and Tim Bresnan further struck with 3 wickets apiece making it all the more difficult for the opposition.
Henriques’s boys recorded a narrow loss off the final delivery in their derby clash against the Sydney Thunder this season and will be eager to extract revenge against their bitter rivals.
The Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, have been dealt a rude jolt after losing out on the services of one of the most consistent and experienced batsmen in the BBL so far Michael Klinger who has decided to skip this season of the Big Bash in order to support his wife in her battle against cancer. It will be extremely difficult for anyone to replicate the impact of the BBL’s all-time leading run scorer and this is certainly an unenviable scenario in which Captain Adam Voges finds himself.

Sydney Sixers
The Sydney Sixers are missing out on the services of a consistent, aggressive opening batsman in Michael Lumb who was forced into retirement due to a knee injury, an experienced wicketkeeper in Brad Haddin amongst the big names who were top contributors for the Sixers in the last few seasons.
Peter Nevill who was signed up from the Renegades this season has been identified as the replacement for Haddin while English opener Jason Roy will be expected to deliver the goods at the top of the order. Roy and Billings will soon leave to represent England and though Nathan Lyon will return after the Ashes, the onus lies on Henriques, Maddinson and Abbott to lead the side on to victory.
Squad: Sean Abbott, Sam Billings (OS), Jackson Bird, Johan Botha, Ben Dwarshuis, Mickey Edwards, Jack Edwards (rookie), Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Nathan Lyon, Nic Maddinson, Peter Nevill, Steve O’Keefe, Jason Roy (OS), Jordan Silk, Mitchell Starc, Henry Thornton
Perth Scorchers
The Scorchers have named Will Bosisto, James Muirhead and Josh Philippe in the squad for the clash against the Sixers as replacements for Shaun Marsh, Cameron Bancroft and Mitch Marsh who are a part of the Australian squad. They have recruited just one overseas player in the form of David Willey as Ian Bell misses out this season. Mitchell Johnson, David Willey and Voges will be the main men for the Scorchers this season.
Squad: Adam Voges (C), Ashton Agar, Will Bosisto, Hilton Cartwright, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Johnson, James Muirhead, Joel Paris, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, David Willey
The Perth Scorchers enjoy an experienced and lethal pace-trio in Mitchell Johnson, Jhye Richardson and David Willey who are more than capable of leading the side on to a victory against the Sixers.
