Team Bangladesh has been on the rise in the recent times. They are placed at number 7 spot in the current ICC ODI rankings. This puts them in a very comfortable position to directly qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019. As per the rules, the top 8 teams as on the cut off date 30 September 2017, will directly qualify for the ICC mega event. The least ranked two sides in the top ten sides will then have to fight it out in a qualifying tournament along with the winners of the qualifiers among the associate nations to make it to the tournament proper.
As per the recent quotes in bdcrictime.com, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hassan Papon quoted that he is very optimistic about seeing the Bangladeshi side directly qualifying for the World Cup 2019. He noted that the only way that would not be possible if something totally bizarre happens from now on, which is very much unlikely.
“It would be a different case if there will be any eccentric mishap take place. But there is no possibility of any such condition. We are among the similar plans that ICC has taken,” quoted the BCB Chief.
Big margins
In the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh had entered as the number 6th ranked side. However, with Pakistan winning the tournament, they slipped to number 7 spot. Despite this, the BCB chief has cited that the margins between the ratings of the other teams lower than Bangladeshi side in the rankings is quite a lot to cover.
“I am utmost hopeful of Bangladesh to play in the World Cup 2019 directly. The margin between teams are so extended that there is no possibility of Bangladesh being thrown out of the scene,” he conceded.
