The Chief Selector of the Indian cricket team, MSK Prasad, is reportedly looking at the younger prospects for the 2019 edition of the World Cup. There is less than two years time for the mega event and hence it comes as no surprise why all the teams are brushing up their preparations for the same. The most important thing that all the teams are working on at the moment is shaping up the core squad.

This was evident when England recently fielded multiple uncapped players in their T20I series against South Africa. Similarly, the Bangladesh team has announced a pool squad of players among which the squad for the Australia Test series will be picked. Needless to say, the Indian think tank is keen on doing something on the same lines.

As per the recent quotes in News18, Chief Selector MSK Prasad noted that youngsters have a very good chance of making it to the Indian side for the mega event. India have over 50 ODIs to play before the mega event kicks off in 2019. He remarked that this move of having new faces in these ODIs in the lead up to the tournament will help the youngsters get a good experience of international cricket.

“Such a move would make sure that the new players can acquire skills and gain experience by featuring in some 40 to 50 matches by the time the World Cup is held,” quoted MSK Prasad.

Recalling the recent defeat of India in the finals of the Champions Trophy, MSK noted that it was unfortunate to have lost in the finals. However, the team is keen on looking at the positives and doing better in the days to come.

“It is unfortunate that the team lost the final. Overall, we did well. We must take positives from the tournament and look to correct the mistakes with an eye on the next World Cup. BCCI would plan an all-round strategy for the team after identifying the shortcomings,” Prasad noted.
