BCB President recommends Anamul Haque for South Africa tour

Looking at the woes at the top of the order, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan has recommended the name of Anamul Haque ahead of the upcoming Tests against South Africa. Anamul last played a Test match 3 years back and went out of favour post his slow 70-ball 47 knock in a T20I back in 2015.

Bangladesh has had trouble regarding the positions of Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar who have been woefully out of form at the top of the order. Bangladesh talismanic batsman Tamim Iqbal has been splendid at the opening position but has struggled to find a partner at the other end to match him.

Nazmul Hassan, therefore, recommended the name of Anamul Haque looking at the trouble at the no.2 and no.3 positions. The President of BCB was also responsible for the recommending the name of Mominul Haque in the squad which featured against Australia. Bangladesh managed to tie the series at 1-1.

BCB President heavily involved in matters of selection

“If Imrul [Kayes] had done well, we would have thought of putting him ahead of Soumya [Sarkar] but that didn’t happen. There isn’t anyone extraordinary coming up in that position, but we are looking for someone. Bijoy (Anamul Haque) is an option as a right-hander. You will be surprised to know that I have already mentioned his name to the board the day before yesterday. I think he will be considered. We have to work with a left-right combination,” claimed the BCB President according to Espncricinfo.

Also, the fact that four out of the top 5 batsmen are left handers in the Bangladesh batting line-up, forced Hassan to recommend the name of Anamul Haque in the squad. Nazmul Hassan Papon also recommended the name of Shahriar Nafees and Mehedi Maruf who had brilliant BPL seasons. He was also vocal about the place of Mahmudallah in the Bangladesh squad against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
