The Indian cricket team has been without a head coach since the end of Duncan Fletcher’s term in 2015. Ravi Shastri who was appointed as the team director following the World Cup has been playing the dual role since then. But if reports are to be believed Indian team will have a new coach when they turn up for the national side post the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After failing to extend Duncan Fletcher’s contract, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Ravi Shastri as the director of the team, along with the support staff – Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and Bharat Arun.

The BCCI had earlier in 2015 appointed a three-member advisory panel compromising of – Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly and VVS Laxman who have the responsibility of choosing a coach for the team coach post the high profile T20 league.

A BCCI official who spoke to the press after the meeting said, “After World T20, whatever tour is, we would like to have the coach in place. We will get time during IPL (in April-May) so our effort will be to call the meeting of advisory panel and decide on the coach. We will begin the process after the World T20,” said the official.

India is scheduled to tour West Indies soon after the IPL.

Michael Hussey had earlier revealed that Laxman approached him for the India coaching job but he turned it down due to personal reasons.
