The Ranji Trophy final is all set to be played at the Holkar stadium in Indore for the second consecutive time. The BCCI confirmed the development through a media release today. The final is scheduled to take place from the 29th of December 2017 to the 2nd of January 2018.
The ongoing Ranji Trophy has seen some thrilling contests so far. While some have been dominated, others have gone down the wire. The two semifinals are slated to start from the 17th of December. Delhi is going to lock horns with Bengal at the Pune stadium while Karnataka is all set to face Vidarbha at Kolkata. Both games promise to be an exciting contest.
This is going to be the second consecutive instance of the Holkar stadium being the venue for the Ranji Trophy final. Last year, it witnessed a spectacle as Gujarat went on to register a victory against Mumbai. Mumbai were deemed favourites considering their history, so the result wasn’t expected.
This may be seen as a huge development for the Holkar stadium which has now been constant in hosting important games. After hosting a test match last year, it was one of Kings XI Punjab’s home grounds during the Indian Premier League this year.
It also hosted the final One Day International between India and Australia. While Aaron Finch’s century took Australia to a good total, India chased well. 70 plus scores from the trio of Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya meant, India chased the target with ease.
Hence, it can well be seen as a lucky ground for India as they have won all their games here. India are slated to play the second T20 international against Sri Lanka at Indore as well. It’s scheduled to be played just a week before the Ranji Trophy final kicks off.
