BCCI announces new overseas tour for team India in 2018

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced India’s short tour of Ireland this year. The board made the announcement in an official press release on their official website. During the tour, the Indian team will face the Irish side in a two-match T20I series. Both the matches will be played in the capital city of Dublin.

The dates for the two matches have been finalized as June 27 and June 29. Interestingly, the short T20I series will serve as a warm-up ground for India’s much talked about tour of England that commences in July this year. “The Indian Cricket Team will travel to Ireland to play two T20Is prior to their tour of England in July. The two T20Is will be held in Dublin on June 27 and June 29, 2018,” the BCCI media release read.

The last time team India toured Ireland was over a decade ago in the year 2007. Back then, the Indian team had thumped the Irish side by 9 wickets in the ODI fixture played at Belfast. Talking about the T20Is, India has faced off against Ireland only once in the history of the game. The match was played during the 2009 ICC World T20.

In the ICC World Cup 2011, the Men in Blue had locked horns with Ireland in another ODI fixture. In the 2015 edition of the ICC World Cup in Australia, the two sides had met again. On all these mentioned occasions, it was the Indian team that emerged victorious.

This time around the Irish side would fancy their chances in the shortest format considering the fact that they have improved significantly since the last time these two sides met for an international fixture. Ireland has also received their Test status last year. The year of 2018 promises to be a big one for them. They are set to host Pakistan for their first ever Test match in May 2018.
