BCCI announces the schedule of U19 quadrangular tournament

All the matches will be played in Kolkata.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the schedule of the upcoming U19 ODI quadrangular tournament. The U19 teams of India, Nepal and Afghanistan will participate in the competition and the fourth team will be a U19 team of National Cricket Academy (NCA). All the matches will be played in Kolkata between September 9 and September 20.

This tournament is being looked at as the preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup which is scheduled to take place in October this year. Apart from these three teams, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and UAE will also take part in the 8-nation U19 Asia Cup.

The format of the tournament

The first match of the quadrangular tournament will be played between India and Afghanistan on September 12 at the iconic Eden Gardens as reported by Czarsportz. On the same day, Jadavpur University will host the face-off between Nepal U19 and NCA U19 team. Every side will face the other side once each before the top two teams will contest for the ultimate glory and September 18. There will also be a 3rd place playoff match between the other two teams.

This is a great chance for these three teams to fine-tune their skills ahead of the all-important Asia Cup. Afghanistan U19 team are the title holders as they had defeated Pakistan U19 in the final of the last edition which was held in Malaysia. India had lost to Nepal last year as well. The cricketing world witnessed the brilliance of the likes of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Sandeep Lamichhane.

Both of them are currently plying their trades for their respective national teams as Afghanistan and Nepal have shown significant progress at the highest level. While Afghanistan recently played their first ever Test match, Nepal made their ODI debut against the Netherlands last week.
