Nobody must have thought in their wildest dreams during the series against Australia that they were witnessing AB de Villiers for the last time in the international cricket.  He was destined to play the World Cup next year in England and was preparing himself for the mega event. But he shocked the cricketing fraternity with his decision to hang his boots and will now only play domestic cricket and overseas leagues. While everyone is going gaga over him, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with a special tweet for Mr 360.

De Villiers is one of the most loved cricketers in India and last played an international series in the country way back in 2015. He had scored a heroic knock of 119 runs off just 61 deliveries by tearing apart the Indian bowling at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Despite being on the receiving end, the Indian crowd was chanting his name and those scenes were absolutely brilliant.

BCCI’s special tribute

The official Twitter handle of BCCI termed him as a legend and wished him all the luck in his future endeavours in their message for one of the best cricketers in the World. “As the Proteas legend @ABdeVilliers17 calls it a day on his international career, we at BCCI would like to wish him all the very best for his future endeavours #ABRetires,” they captioned the message with some memorable pictures of De Villiers’ career.

He was in India until the last week plying his trade for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He was in amazing form with the bat and amassed 480 runs in 11 outings at a brilliant strike-rate of 174.55. But nobody must have thought that he will be retiring from international cricket so soon.
