The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to bring a change in the management and support staff of India’s women cricket team as they have invited applications for the position of head coach of the India Women’s team for a period of two years. Woorkeri Raman, also known as WV Raman, is the current head coach of the Women’s team. However, his tenure ended in October last year but he was asked to continue the job for the just-concluded home series against South Africa Women.

The BCCI has released the advertisement for the appointment of the new head coach for the women’s team on their official site. According to the advertisement, the applicant needs to fulfill certain criteria to be eligible for selection. The applicant should have represented India or any other country at the international level or must have an NCA Level ‘C’ certified coach or should have a similar certification from a reputed organization/institute and a minimum of 50 first-class games.

In addition, the candidates who coached an international team for a period of a minimum of one season or a T20 franchise for a minimum of two seasons will also be considered for the post. Meanwhile, the Indian board has also increased the power and responsibility of the head coach. The coach will be responsible for guiding and supporting the specialized coaching staff to build a strong women’s national team. Also, they will have to keep a check on the set standards of fitness and high performance of NCA with the national team.

WV Raman to re-apply for Head coach post

WV Raman is also planning to re-apply for the post, “As far as I know, WV will be applying for the post. Under his guidance, the women’s team reached the finals of the World T20. And don’t forget this series against South Africa was the first in one year. He is well within his rights to re-apply and I believe he remains a strong contender,’ a senior BCCI official told as quoted by sportzwiki

Apart from the Women’s head coach, BCCI is also planning to fill the vacant spot of the national selector junior men’s team. The criteria for the same is that the person should have played at least 25 first-class matches and should have represented a state in Ranji Trophy.
