India and Pakistan have been loggerheads with each other on several matters over the years. Their relationship has only worsened with the passage of time, which has also affected cricketing ties between the age-old antagonists. Recently, Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistani all-rounder, and Hasan Ali, the 24-year old fast-bowler, have got themselves tangled n a couple of controversies.

Earlier this month, Shahid Afridi tweeted about the intervention of the United Nations to stop the bloodshed in the Indian-occupied area of Kashmir. Thereafter, Hasan Ali mocked the BSF at the Wagah Border along with his signature style of celebration. Both incidents haven’t gone down well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and they have asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take action against such attitude of cricketers.

Cricket- A gentleman’s game

“I would request Sethi to sternly deal with the issue of the recent misbehaviour of the Pakistani cricketer in showing disrespect towards India as a country and other indiscriminate actions and words by former cricketers that do nothing to promote the right atmosphere for cricket. I do hope they at least understand the concept of a ‘gentleman’,” the BCCI official was quoted as saying by Cricket Next.

India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series against each other since 2012 when Pakistan toured India for a T20I and an ODI series. Since there, several issues have sparked owing to which their relationship has been hampered. The BCCI official, in his interaction with the media, also mentioned the issues which their rival country need to understand.

“In an ideal world, we would host Pakistan in India and visit Pakistan to play there. Our willingness thus exceeds the willingness of PCB it appears, when we talk only of willingness. However, firstly Sethi must understand that BCCI does not decide the policies of the Government of India, just the way PCB does not decide the policies of the Government of Pakistan. We are an Indian organisation that is bound by the laws of India and we have to comply with them, it is not a card for us but a legal necessity,” he added.
