BCCI Likely to Reconsider Its Stature in DRS Usage: The Decision Review System (DRS) has been plugged into the international cricketing sphere for quite sometime now but the Indian team rather BCCI has always resisted to use it in any series owing to some of the technical fallacies that lie in the DRS system.
Of late, there is a hint that BCCI is reconsidering its position in the DRS. As it stands now, the Board does not use the DRS system in any bilateral series but might use it ‘partially’ after a voting consent from the newly formed advisory committee of the BCCI.
The newly appointed president of BCCI, Jagmohan Dalmiya said to the media on Wednesday, “It is clarified that the stand taken on the Decision Review System (DRS) by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remains the same as on date. But that does not mean we would not be open to discussions internally on whether the DRS could be used partially or in its modified version during bilateral series.”
This draws in the impact of Virat Kohli’s statement of reconsidering the use of DRS system. The Indian test Captain said during the test match against Bangladesh, “You’ve to sit and analyse and ask the bowlers what they feel about it. Ask the batters what they feel about it. Now that we’ve time, I’m sure these discussions will take place.”
The CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Dave Richardson said earlier that the BCCI was against the use of DRS system owing to the fact that it possessed several reasons. The major one being the provision to counter the decision of the umpire which goes against the spirit of Cricket. Also, some arguments were made against the DRS system that it is not a full-proof system and is composed of several bugs when considered in deep.
BCCI is likely to conduct a meeting by forming a working-committee for the same. It would be interesting to know about what impacts do the advisory committee, maintained by the likes of legends like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman would create upon India’s stance on the DRS system.
