Injury woes continue to hamper the upcoming Indian Premier League. A BCCI medical update lists 6 of India’s top players unfit and requiring rehabilitation. Some of the players had picked up injuries during the recently concluded Test series against Australia, while others are new additions.

India skipper Virat Kohli picked up a serious shoulder injury during the third test against Australia in Ranchi. Kohli, in an effort to save a boundary, tumbled into the advertising boards, resulting in a shoulder injury. He was ruled out of the fourth test and handing the responsibility of captaining the side to Ajinkya Rahane. For the upcoming IPL, the skipper of the Royal Challengers Bangalore has handed the baton to South African AB de Villiers. As per reports, Kohli is to undergo rehabilitation and his recovery will be assessed in the second week of April.

Another blow to RCB comes in the form of KL Rahul. Having picked up an injury on his left shoulder in the very first test in Pune, Rahul will be sidelined for this IPL season. He will travel to England and is likely to go under the knife. Tamil Nadu’s N Jagadeesan has been called in to fill in Rahul’s spot in the RCB squad.

The list of shoulder injuries continues. India’s other opener Murali Vijay missed out on the third test in Ranchi with a niggle in the shoulder. It is still unclear whether or not he will feature in this season of the IPL. Vijay had captained the Kings XI Punjab side last year for a portion of the tournament. Vijay will have to undergo surgery on his right wrist and rehabilitation for his left shoulder.

India’s current spin wizard R Ashwin has been advised 6 to 8 weeks of rehabilitation following the hard-fought series win against Australia. Ashwin, who plays for the Rising Pune Supergiant side, will have to miss out on this edition of the IPL.

Speedster UmeshYadav, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who’ve both been in excellent form with the ball, have been advised two weeks rest. Jadeja, who bowled brilliantly along with R Ashwin in the test series, has issues with his spinning finger. His side Gujarat Lions will miss his services in the first couple of games. Umesh Yadav on the other hand, has had soreness on his right hip and his lower back. The Kolkata Knight Riders will have to do without him in the first two matches.

The good news comes for the Mumbai Indians, in form of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, who have been declared fit and available for the IPL.

Here is the medical update coming from the BCCI:

Virat Kohli — Undergoes rehabilitation. Recovery will be assessed in April 3rd week.

Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya — fit and available for IPL.

KL Rahul — Left shoulder surgery.

R Ashwin — Advised 6-8 weeks rehabilitation.

M Vijay — Right wrist surgery and left shoulder rehabilitation.

Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja— Advised two weeks rest. Jadeja has issues with spinning finger, Umesh has right hip and the lower back soreness. Will miss first two matches for their teams in IPL 2017.
