Cricket is a dynamic sport and requires a tremendous level of fitness for the players in order for them to survive the rigors and challenges. Meanwhile, burnouts and fatigues are also concerning factors for cricketers with the amount of cricket which takes place over the months. India has had several cricketing assignments over the past few months.

They played an ODI and T20I series against Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka, which spanned from September to December 2017. Thereafter, the Men in Blue played Test and ODI series against South Africa and is currently playing a T20I series against them. After the completion of their tour of the Rainbow nation, India will play a triangular T20I series in Sri Lanka.

Kohli’s workload

Virat Kohli, himself, has played a lot of cricket over the past few months. In a recent interaction with the media, a top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) talked about Virat’s participation in the upcoming series.  “If Virat wants to rest, he will get it. In Virat’s case, it’s he who decides on whether he would like to opt out or not”, the official was quoted as saying to Press Trust of India (PTI)

However, the official also emphasized the significance of the upcoming series for the Indian skipper ahead of the Indian Premier League. “But you never know he might just want to play the T20 series as this is the last tourney of the season. Once the tournament is over, he will get a fortnight off before the Indian Premier League,” the official added.

The Indian fast-bowling duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah also have been grilling themselves for India. Quite rightly, their workload has also been a matter of concern for the Indian selectors, which is most likely to be discussed by the national selection committee headed by MSK Prasad.
