Indian cricket team coach Anil Kumble and skipper Virat Kohli are of different opinions when it comes to the proposed pay hike for centrally contracted players. While Kumble has been asking for a raise in pay for himself, and as well as the other team members, news has it that Virat has not asked for any hike in pay.

While the coach asked for a hike for Kohli in his presentation, it has been revealed that the skipper personally didn’t request a hike. Due to Kumble’s persistence with a raise, it appears that some of the BCCI officials are unhappy with him, which is why the advertisement for a new head coach is up. (Also, Kumble’s one year tenure expires on June 20)

Virat didn’t want extra allowance

A senior BCCI official told CricketNext that Kumble asked for an additional allowance for Virat Kohli since he takes up the additional responsibility of captaining the side. But Kohli never asked for it.

“Never would Virat Kohli be on the same page on the captain getting paid extra for discharging the captain’s responsibility. In fact, I have personally had a word with him once or twice and he has always said that every player’s interest should be taken care of, but especially those who play just one format should be priority.”

“Kumble tagged a few others to strengthen his case”

The official went on to reveal that Kumble named Kohli and a few others to make his stand more prominent and that his (Kumble’s) mention of Kohli asking for a raise was ‘mind-boggling’

“Actually Kumble wants to tag a few people just to strengthen his case. But his demand that the skipper be paid extra is mind-boggling,” the official said.

The BCCI has invited applications for the position of Team India’s coach, and it seems that all is not well between Kumble and the board officials.
