KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya recently featured in a show Koffee With Karan, aired on TV and online on Sunday, hosted by Karan Johar, a renowned Indian producer, director and screenwriter. During the show, both were having fun and made some startling revelations as the show’s host kept hurling questions at them. However, both also came up with some ‘sexist’ and ‘racist’ remarks on women.

Thereafter, Pandya took to Twitter and apologised for the remarks, mentioning that he got a bit carried away due to the nature of the television show. Nevertheless, the comments haven’t gone down well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) sent a show cause notice to both Rahul and Hardik.

The duo needs to give an explanation within 24 hours for their actions. “We have sent show cause notices to Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their comments. They have given 24 hours to give an explanation,” CoA chief Vinod Rai was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.

This is disgraceful and not acceptable

A senior official of the BCCI also said that the matter was far from over and the comments showed their approach towards issues like respecting women. “This attempt at an apology does in no way bring the issue to closure. This merely shows how lightly he takes the gravely serious issue of respecting women. His conduct was unacceptable.

He needs to understand the impact the utterances of an international cricketer have in this country. More importantly, he needs to learn how to differentiate between the right and the wrong. Right now he seems to merely respond to the outrage and not to his own thought process and conduct,” he was quoted as saying.

Ratnakar Shetty, former BCCI manager of Game Development, who is with Uttarakhand as a BCCI nominee, termed the development as ‘disgraceful’. “This is disgraceful and not acceptable from someone who represents the country and I will be writing to the Committee of Administrators so that these things are not repeated. I have also tweeted how I feel,” he mentioned.
