The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to wait for the report of the ICC’s probe over the recent revelations regarding the pitch-fixing. According to the footages released by the Doha based channel Al Jazeera, the three Test matches involving India are under the scanner. Also, the name of the former first-class cricketer, Robin Morris, has come up in the sting operation. However, the Indian board has reacted cautiously on the sensitive topic and will only take the action on him if the ICC finds him guilty in the matter.
The three matches in whites in question are India vs Sri Lanka (Galle, July 26-29, 2017), India vs Australia (Ranchi, March 16-20, 2017) and India vs England (Chennai, December 16-20, 2016). The two of them were won by the Virat Kohli led side as the Ranchi Test ended in a draw amidst excitement on the final day. It is also being reported that two Australians and three England players have been accused of fixing certain sessions in a Test match.
BCCI reacts
A senior BCCI official cleared that the board will be waiting for the ICC to complete its investigation and then will decide whether to take any action on Robin Morris. He also cleared that the former cricketer is currently not involved in any of the projects of the BCCI.
“We believe ICC has started its probe. Let them complete that and pronounce Morris guilty. The BCCI will only act when they have the verdict in hand. We need to check with our Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) whether Morris’ name was there on the suspect list. Secondly, he is not associated with any BCCI or state unit project currently from where we need to pull him out,” he was quoted as saying by News 18.
The official also added that the cricketer must be receiving the pension of Rs 22,500 according to the rules of BCCI which they can cancel any time given he is found guilty. “So the only thing left is BCCI domestic cricketers’ pension of Rs 22,500 (after deductions). If he is getting that pension, BCCI is well within its rights to cancel that but only after he has been proven guilty,” he said.
