Robin Morris denies match-fixing allegations on him; set to take legal action

Robin Morris, the former Ranji cricketer, is in the news these days as Al Jazeera has accused him of being involved in the match-fixing. The cricketer, who played the game for Mumbai and Orissa between 1995 and 2007, could be seen discussing the pitch-fixing in the documentary which is said to be aired on Sunday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched an investigation over the same and more details will be unfurled soon. However, Morris has strictly denied the claims of any such wrongdoings and might take a legal action soon.

Al Jazeera has claimed that the pitch for the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Galle which was played last year was doctored and the game was fixed. According to the footage released, Morris could be seen saying that he has bribed the Galle groundsman to ensure ‘guaranteed outcomes’. Interestingly, the Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of the BCCI has cleared that Morris is not in the Person of Interests (POI) lists in this case for them according to the Mumbai Mirror.

I am shocked

In an interview to Mumbai Mirror, Robin Morris has clearly denied the match-fixing claims on him and is set to take the legal action. He also explained that he was taken to different places in order to make a documentary and all the trips were sponsored as well.

“They were talking something and they are showing something else. I am shocked. I am going to take legal recourse. I am going to talk to my lawyer. I cannot talk much on this at this stage. Actually, they sponsored our ticket fares, (took us to different places) and provided accommodation. Because they wanted to make a documentary, they sponsored our trips. They took me everywhere (Galle, Dubai),” he said.

When asked if he was present in Galle while the Test match was in progress he called those allegations as ‘utter nonsense’ and also went on to say that the shoot was going on for last 18 months. “This has been happening for the last one and half years. They have been taking me to different places. No, no. Of course not. It’s all absolutely nonsense,” Morris added.
